Recreation General Information

Mission Statement
“Caring, Understanding, and Enjoyment through our programs and services”
Vision Statement
Provide Exceptional Services at a low cost to the Residents of Foss Park District
The Community Recreation Center was built in 1973 with the gracious assistance of Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL.
The recreation center is the location for the childcare programs for Latchkey (before & after school) and the Summer Camp.
This center has rooms available for rent; the Robert Smith Room & the Blue Room.  Anyone interested in renting these rooms for wedding receptions, birthdays, graduations, or any other reasons, please print the Facility Usage Application and submit it to the Front Desk with the appropriate fee.

The Recreation Departments goal is to offer activities for all age groups; programs that are recreational, social, cultural, physical, and also offer creative outlets.
The Recreation Department encourages children and adults to take advantage of recreational opportunities by participating in the many early childhood, youth and teen, camp, after-school, adult programs, athletic, and/or special recreation programs. Our programs and services benefit individuals by enhancing self-esteem, creative expression, fitness and physical activity.
Program information on fall, winter, spring and summer activities can be found in the Foss Park District seasonal brochure. Additional activity information may be provided to children at school, or you may also see activity information on park district marquee, or in the local newspaper.
Early Childhood Programs provide positive recreational opportunities for fun, learning, and socialization. They are also designed to encourage creativity through songs, music, books, and art, as well as promoting self-confidence through independent play.
Youth and Teen Programs work to enhance self- esteem, expose youth to new opportunities, increase their knowledge, cultural awareness, and well being among their peers.
Adult Programs provide an opportunity for socialization, bettering ones health, skill development, reducing stress, and taking adventures.
Youth and Adult Sports and Fitness Programs offer opportunities for physical fitness, mind body awareness, socialization, decreasing child obesity, increasing self-esteem, and encouraging healthy habits.
The Recreation Departments goal is to use this program in efforts to reduce the growing trend of obesity and the risk of coronary heart disease. We want to encourage youth, adults, and seniors to achieve a healthy weight, follow a heart healthy eating plan, engage in fun and regular physical activity.
